Many thanks to my very dear friend, Rachael Turner, for my amazing pregnancy photos and memories, which I STILL can't stop looking at!!

The Birthday Boy!

A big HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY to my little boy, Bam Bam for yesterday! We had a great dress up party on the weekend for just family. We dressed in Super Hero costumes, we love a bit of Cosplay! Even hubster got dressed up as Robin, I was Miss Captain America.

One happy 4 year old boy :)

The Cake!

I nailed it Mums! This was my own design, ok, yes it is a bit busy, with a shitload of fondant icing used, but it looks lovely awesome and I had fun doing it! Best of Bam Bam loved it and it was yummy! I call that a WIN!

Spongebob SquarePants Birthday Cake for a 4 Year old boy - design and made by yours truly! Inspiring Mums® "Nailed it!"

The idea for the Spongebob SquarePants cake came after we watched the movie at the cinemas. Although we kind of had a SuperHero party, he really wanted a Spongebob cake, so I gave it a really good go!

The theme is Patrick and Spongebob underwater (obviously!), Patrick is jumping up into the water saying "Hey David!" Then Spongebob is there holding his Crabby Patty poking out his tongue blowing a raspberry (being cheeky just like Bam Bam is!).

How To Make A Spongebob SquarePants Cake

Disclaimer... I am not a cake decorator and simply just followed the idea in my head and pretended the fondant was Play-Doh and went for it! I am not a professional by any means, it just turned out well - I have reclaimed myself after the disaster cake I made for my daughter last year.

This Is How I Did It... Right Or Wrong! :)

  1. First I made the top image on its own because I didn't really know how I was going to do it. But then I got the idea!
  2. Made the base cake, just out of chocolate cupcake mix, it even stayed together, it didn't rise much, but that worked out well actually! I then cut it into a square. I put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes to cool down the cake so I could work the icing on it without melting.
  3. Then I rolled out the flavoured white fondant and added some food colouring to water and got a paintbrush to make a watercolour design for the underwater image you see below in image 2. I also added some seaweed and turned out well!
    • NOTE: At this point I probably used too much water and to firm up the icing I put it in the freezer to harden... ok so DON'T DO THAT... :) it goes wet and mooshy! Leave it to air harden! It dries out and doesn't melt or loosen.
  4. Then I added the top piece I started working on and kept adding to the design with the Crabby Patties and Patrick.
  5. I added some little cocktail umbrellas for a 3-dimensional effect.
  6. Then I carved in the wording with a knife and used the coloured water again to paint over the wording to ensure it came up clear.
  7. The coloured decorations are chocolate sprinkles (taste like M&M's) and used them to make the coral effect. Then added the smaller sugar sprinkles.
  8. We used sparklers and candles on the cake for the sing-a-long.

The Party!

Both hubster and I hired our costumes from a local costume in Frankston and it was worth it because we had a ball, Bam Bam loved it and it was cheaper than hiring people! We played Super Heros in the back yard and had a lot of fun!

We got the balloons from a local party shop and ordered pizzas for lunch, so I didn't have to do too much cooking.

The Last 4 Years Have Gone Soooo Fast!

Now, if anyone asks me what I have been doing for the last four years, I can show them I have been raising an amazing little boy! The last 4 years have gone incredible fast and I am so thankful for having the opportunity to spend as much time with him as possible, working or not working whenever I want to. Having a lifestyle that enables me to be MUM and a fun one at that, well that's just priceless.

I hope Bam Bam remembers his birthday and his silly parents! hehe

Thanks for all of the wonderful birthday wishes on Instagram and Facebook he loves the attention! I hope you enjoyed this blog!
